  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup olive oil

About Rose Shaped Poppy Seed Rolls:

Do you remember my previous recipe with poppy seed? Right! The recipe for salted poppy seed crackers. If you liked it, I’m sure that you’re going to like this traditional Turkish poppy seed rolls too. It’s very light and yummy (as I always write for my recipes). This pastry with poppy seeds in it resembles roses, but first you have to imagine it :) May be yo can shape them more likely to roses. Ok, let’s start with some photos.

  1. A kneading bowl

  2. A rolling pin

  3. Greased paper

  4. An oven tray

  5. A knife

  6. A pastry brush

    Pour the milk into a pot and heat till it gets warm, not hot.

    Add granulated sugar and yeast on to the milk and set aside for 10 minutes until yeast swells.

    Add the mix, oil, salt and 1 egg in a kneading bowl. Then add flour little by little on to this mix and knead until it is soft like “earlobe”.

    Cover the bowl with the dough in it with a towel or something like that for 35-40 minutes and wait until it swells. Meanwhile mix the oil and poppy seed paste in a bowl.

    Divide the dough into 5 or 6 pieces when it completely swells. Roll and spread each dough with the rolling pin as much as you can just like on the second photo.

    Wash each dough with 3-4 tablespoons mix with poppy seed paste with the pastry brush. Make the mix spread equally on to the dough (look at the second photo again).

    Roll the dough and cut 2-3 fingers width slices and place them on to the tray with greased paper on it (look at the last photo).

    Egg wash all the “roses” on the tray and bake in the oven set to 180 °C (355 °F) until their tops turn brown.
